Message I couldn't help but stop for a photo-op on our way out of new mexico

Oh yea, and there was that whole overheating thing too. We let the car cool for over an hour before we got on our way to the next gas station. At this point, there was no real loss of coolant to the ground. The car got so hot that it stalled, at speed, when i depressed the clutch. Releasing it started the motor again. Not good. Scuffed pistons??

After MSR, my car was getting hot, but was controllable. Thank you everyone for sticking with me... thats when I knew I had made a bunch of good friends at Zcon summercamp. ;)
When it REALLY went, the lower radiator hose blew like a shotgun, dispersing all my coolant over the freeway. Big thanks to Dave N for being right there, ready to help in anyway he could. Halo for tailing me and troubleshooting and Sacto is always looking out for me too. Big thanks to the three of you...

And the money flatbed shot...

After a quick install on a Howe radiator and a hard lower coolant pipe I was hoping all my cooling woes were behind me. After getting on the road, the dummy guage seemed rock solid. After putting 2/3 of our trip behind us, the water temp makes a run for it in Continental Divide, NM.

And the flatbed shot...

The car is being held in a yard in NM and a car transport is scheduled to pick it up. Sacto took me on as navigator and we kept on truckin. I'm very lucky to have travelled with Sacto and Scott. Had all this happened to me alone, I would have been totally fuxored.

I hope to be driving a daily driver by the time my Z arrives home. I plan on pressure testing the coolant system to find the last leak somewhere below the plenum that stranded me. A leakdown test to find any serious head gasket breaches and one of those chemical tests to check for traces of exhaust in the coolant. Depending on the results of those tests, it may be time to pull the motor again and do some freshening up and housekeeping. I also plan to fill my coolant system in the future used one of those vacuum pump coolant transfer doohickies. Its possible this all started and continued with bubbles in the system.

While getting tires mounted for Zcon, I had this doozy of a conversation with the mechanic...

Tireguy: [looking at emblem] Is this a Twin Turbo?
Me: Well, yea.
Tireguy: Awesome! How much boost do you run?
Me: 14-15 ish.
Tireguy: Cool. On both?

ROFLMFAO

I'll be there in electronic format =). (n/m) - Kenny
